Gone in a Flash - Let that be a Lesson

This was another one of those occasions when you have to "Shoot first and ask questions afterwards".

Looking around the side of a bush in a wooded area I caught sight of a small bird (a Goldfinch as it later turned out). I lifted the camera and took two photographs, only to find that I didn't get a second chance.

OK it was only a Goldfinch in dull conditions with a lot of noise on the image, but it may have been something rare and at least I would have got a record of it.

I love both pictures! And the gold flash of him flitting away is perfect!

You're absolutely right!! One never knows. Sometimes I don't know whether to point my camera or lift my binoculars. ~karen

Thanks Evie.

I know what you mean about the bins or camera Karen. They way I look at it is that if I get a half decent image I can ID it later and look at it for longer (thats the theory anyway) {:)

Hey Roy..Although the American Goldfinch is very pretty...the bird you call a Goldfinch there is beautiful!!
Very good quick reaction...very nice photos!!
I think the saying " shoot first and ask questions later" applies here. : }

Golden rule number one for bird pics lol
Good catch of the flying away. Could ID from that :)

Thanks GG.

Thanks Keith.

It's rather strange, Roy, but a lot of the bird pictures I take are like your second picture here! I agree with Keith, it's still good for id purposes.

Good thinking Roy. I tend to dither too much and miss things.

Good shots for both! My problem is getting the focus fast enough for the first shot before they take off.

There's no such thing as 'only a goldfinch' :) They are one of our prettiest birds I think. I'm seeing plenty of them at the moment at my niger seed feeders.

Its just a lot of practice Emma, with a lot of failures in between.{:)

Thanks John.

Thanks Mary, yes but your camera is a great improvement on the previous model,b but ids probably not as quick as a semi professional DSLR camera, but then its not meant to be.

Sorry Rowan.{:)
Yes they are very pretty really.
