From the Bird Hide

The latest in my series of "From the Bird Hide"
The Hide is situated in a large woodland area known as Fineshade Wood

The first three images are views from the Hide
As you can see it wasn't the warmest of days

Nothing particularly different on this occasion and all the species are common

Coal Tit (Parus ater)

Marsh Tit (Parus palustris)

Great-spotted Woodpecker (Dendrocopos major)

Chaffinch (Fringilla coelebs)

Jay (Garrulus glandarius)

Robin (Erithacus rubecula)

Blue Tit (Parus caeruleus)

Your Coal Tit pictures are beautiful, Roy. I've not mastered that bird yet. It does look cold at your hide: It was -18 in Redesdale yesterday and when I went to the Mill for Christmas vegetables yesterday afternoon, everyone was happily talking about us having a heat wave (it was only -11 then!)

Thanks Emma,
Well thats alright then. Why do these people bother to go abroad for Christmas when they can enjoy such mild temperatures here.{:)

I like the first photo of the Great Spotted Woodpecker with the
Coal Tit(?) on the bottom of the feeder. I looked twice he is hardly visable!!
The Jay on the frosty tree another good one!!

Hey GG, that woodpecker was on the tree in the extreme left corner of the first view from the hide. Which was quite some distance I was using a lens at 400mm. I was lucky with the Jay which was on the bottom area of the tall tree in the second view.

Great shots! I like those coconut shell feeders...may have to try that. I can see they have suet in them, but do birds eat coconut as well?
