Autumn Paths and Artistic Experiments

The hazy sun didn't last very long today. I got about half way around my walk and the thick blanket cloud covered the sky and that was that. One thing I noticed was the "autumn paths". The leaves are dropping constantly now and any sudden gust of wind causes a flurry of leaves to fall.

The images in this post are mostly about leaves and also some experimenting with monochrome and sepia.

Firstly a collage of autumn paths.

I walk down this path sometimes as small birds can be found along the way in the bushes. There are also fence posts situated along the path in amongst the bushes. During the winter people put out seed for the birds on top of these posts.

A monochrome version of the same path.

Below are three images of Greylag Geese in silhouette.

The two images below I took with the sun behind the subjects as they took off from the water.

The three images below are in Sepia. I like this old photograph effect. It makes something from nothing of an ordinary subject.

The first image below is nothing more than an ordinary stretch of fencing and a tree. Using monochome or sepia makes it more interesting I think.

Around the Park

The other day I posted about being "Up with the Geese". This post is about the rest of the walk around the parkland that day, which I have only been able to put together now.

It's that time of year when there isn't much to see that's different. So I had to make the best of it and observe and photograph what was available.

The windy conditions did provide some nice sky shots though.

This Black-headed Gull displayed much detail in the sunlight and made a nice subject.

There is much activity amongst trees with small birds like the Blue Tit moving about in small groups, frantically feeding on insects they find on leaves and branches.

The autumn scene continues to provide a source for my photographic efforts.

It may look like these Greylag couldn't quite make up their minds which way they were going to swim. In reality they were preparing to take off from the water and were positioning themselves for a headwind (and waiting for me to get my camera ready of course).

Another scene showing an area at the edge of one of the lakes.

Scenes from a Cycle Ride

I really must find a way of rigging a sail on the back of my bike. The wind today on my cycle ride was around 30mph most of the time. It was OK going out, not so easy coming back.

With these high winds and cooler temperatures there was a lot of "wispy cirrus" and "cumulus wotsits" in the sky.

This of course provided a much needed subject for photography as there was little else to see in such weather conditions.

High winds are also speeding up the process of autumn and the falling leaves.

"You can tell its cold and windy as we have got our coats on."

Oilseed plants are well established now in the area. This field will provide much needed food for the Woodpigeon (particularly if a dusting of snow falls) as this will be one of the few foods it eats during January and February.

Placing this black plastic sheeting on the bale rick is supposed to keep the rain off. "It aint working."

Its likely to be cold and windy up there at 30,000 feet.
Its not much better down here at the moment.

Come what may, this winter wheat will be growing tall in the spring.

These horses have a more sheltered area to graze and stables to retire to at night.

A touch of artistic licence, converting these images to sepia and black and white.

More of that sky to end this post.

Up with the Geese

Wouldn't it be nice to be up there with the Geese.
